Urban Sketchers Tokyoへ名称変更のお知らせ

皆さんこんにちは！本日はグループの名称について大事なお知らせがあります。 

これまでUrban Sketchers Japanという名称で活動してきましたが、2024年1月1日よりUrban Sketchers Tokyoに改名することにいたしました。

理由としては、主に2つあります。1つは、もともとUrban Skethchersの支部は「都市」ごとに存在するべきもので、国名を冠することは好ましくない、ということ。もう1つは、まるで日本全体を包括するグループのように見えて、実際のUrban Sketchers Japanの活動はほぼ東京およびその近郊に集中しており、日本全体の活動の管理やサポートはできないこと。この2点を踏まえて、私たちはグループ名を、よりUSkのコンセプトと私たちの活動の実情に忠実な、Urban Sketchers Tokyoを今後は使用していきたいと思います。

しかし、活動内容自体は当面これまでと変わりません。Tokyoを名乗っていますが、スケッチ会は周辺の千葉県や神奈川県を含めて行う可能性がありますし、それらの周辺エリアからの参加者も引き続きUSk Tokyoのメンバーとして活動を続けていければ幸いです。 

また、この改名を機に、日本国内の別の都市でも独立したUrban Skethcersの支部が発足されることを期待しています。日本には東京以外にもたくさんスケッチしがいのある風景や街並みがあります。ぜひ各地のスケッチャーの皆様、ご自身の街でスケッチ好き、スケッチに興味のある人を集めて、スケッチ会を企画してください！そうすれば自ずと日本各都市での支部発足につながり、国内のアーバンスケッチ文化はますます発展していくはずです。 

今後、東京で描いたスケッチやグループのスケッチ会でのスケッチは、ハッシュタグ #usktokyo をつけてSNSに投稿してください。どうぞよろしくお願いします。

Urban Sketchers Tokyo Name Change Announcement

Hello everyone! We have an important announcement to make about the group's name today. 

We have been operating under the name Urban Sketchers Japan, but we will be changing our name to Urban Sketchers Tokyo on January 1, 2024. 

There are two main reasons for this. First, Urban Sketchers chapters are intended to be based on cities, and it is not appropriate to include a country name. Second, although Urban Sketchers Japan appears to be a group that encompasses all of Japan, our activities are actually concentrated in and around Tokyo. We are unable to manage or support activities throughout Japan. 

In light of these two points, we would like to use the name Urban Sketchers Tokyo, which is more faithful to the USk concept and the reality of our activities. 

However, the content of our activities will remain the same for the time being. Although we are called Tokyo, it is possible that we will hold sketch meetups in the surrounding prefectures of Chiba and Kanagawa. We would be happy if participants from these surrounding areas continue to participate in Urban Sketchers Tokyo activities. 

We also hope that this name change will lead to the establishment of independent Urban Sketchers chapters in other cities in Japan. There are many landscapes and streets in Japan that are worth sketching, in addition to Tokyo. We encourage all sketchers around the country to gather people who love sketching or are interested in sketching in their own cities and plan sketch meetups. This will naturally lead to the establishment of chapters in cities across Japan, and the urban sketch culture in Japan will continue to develop.
