先日、京都までコーヒー巡りの旅に行ってきました。わたしはひどいカフェイン中毒なのですが、実は京都は47都道府県でコーヒー消費量が最大の、カフェ文化が発達した土地です。そこで今回は時間の許す限りコーヒー屋さんを訪ね、たくさん飲み、たくさんお店の様子をスケッチしました。そちらのスケッチはFacebookなんかにポストしているのですが（下記リンク）、この記事では京都からさらに少し足を伸ばした大阪での話を書きたいと思います。 For the last three-day holiday, I traveled to Kyoto and had a huge cafe-hopping tour (I'm a terrible coffee addict). Actually, Kyoto has a developed coffee culture, consuming more of it than anywhere else in Japan. In the first half time you'll learn measuring method (just like art school students do) using handle of a pencil as measuring device. One important tip is to see things with one eye. This way you can see the vast view in front of you like seeing a flat picture. The second half time , you'll capture light and shadow using primary colors only. This helps you to avoid being obsessed with copping local colors, if anything, achieving harmonious order in the drawing. This is the 53rd station, Otsu-jyuku. My wife and I visited some stations during new year holidays as my hometown is Kyoto. Otsu-Jyuku is the last station in Tokaido. Hiroshige Utagawa painted the Hashirii-Chaya where was the pass near Kyoto. There were some teahouses along the street. However, there was the temple named Gesshin-Ji nowadays, the gate lamp said “Hashirii". 第五十三、大津宿です。実家が京都なので、年末の帰省に合わせていくつか宿を回ってきました。東海道最後の宿場の大津です。広重が描いたのは京都よりの峠の走井茶屋という場所で、当時は何件も茶屋が並んでいたみたいですが、今は月心寺になっていて、門灯に走井の文字だけが残っていました。 The well which water was overflowing from on the left side of the painting of Hiroshige. There was the well in the temple. We had monthly sketch meet-up in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. Despite February cold, not only we who live in / around Tokyo but also people from around the globe ( literary from US, Europe, China, Australia and more) gathered and the total number is something wow, 18! A charming hilly town full of lovely restaurants and shops is a kind of sketchers dream land, but to tell the truth, the low temperature was the biggest obstacle from keeping my motivation high.. We kept repeating ritual of gathering, spreading around, having two-hour sketch, gathering again, having show and tell, spreading again, having two-hour sketching, then gathering...

This is the 22nd station, Fujieda-jyuku. My wife and I stayed at the hotel near JR Shimada station. The last day of the holiday, I headed to Fujieda city in the morning. There were few historical building or something. Hiroshige Utagawa painted Jinba-Tsugitate which means distribution point.  However, this place is a parking lot and a police station now. 第二十二、藤枝宿です。三連休の三日目、前日はJR島田駅の近くで宿を取り、朝早くに藤枝に向かいました。旧東海道沿いの藤枝には当時のものはあまり残されておらず、広重が描いた人馬継立という荷物を運んでくれる人足や馬がいるところは、駐車場と交番になっていました。 I found a sweet shop between big houses when I walked the main street. It was jam and baked sweet shop named Tori-Dori. Birds are used for the logo. There were various bottles of jam and I bought a seasonal product, a yuzu jam. 年末年始、東京でたっくさんスケッチをしていったオーストラリアのアーバンスケッチャー、マイケルのスケッチブックを拝見する機会がありました。とても彼らしく、楽しいスケッチブックの使い方をされていて、ぜひこれをこのブログで共有したいと思ったのが、今回の記事のはじまりです。 スケッチブックはスケッチャーの一番の友と言っていいアイテム。アーバンスケッチをされる方の多くが、どこへ行くにもスケッチブックと一緒だと思います。そのため、どんなものを選び、どんなふうに使うかは、スケッチャーによって、その好みやスタイルに応じて様々。そこで今回はマイケルに加えて3名のUSkJメンバーにご自身とスケッチブックについて書いていただきました。書き手の方々には簡単にテーマだけお伝えしたのですが、皆さんそれぞれのスタイルでコメントを寄せてくださって、それも非常にアーバンスケッチャーらしいです。。。以下、ボリュームはあるのですが、そのぶん読み応えもばっちりなので最後までお読みいただけたら嬉しいです。 The idea of this blog post came from when I saw the sketchbooks of an Australian urban sketcher Michael, who sketched a lot in Tokyo for the past two months. I was impressed by the way he uses them and wanted to share it in this blog. If you are an urban sketcher, probably you go everywhere with your sketchbook ー sketchbooks are our best friend. Since they are a big part of sketchers' life, what kind of book one chooses and how one uses it may really vary depending on the preference and style. So, for this article, I asked Michael and three USkJ m
