Image
I've been having this casual sketch outing with a good circle of friends recently. Just recently (tho, it's already a month ago), we went out to Ningyo-cho area in Tokyo, and did some sketching of their retro-ish neighborhood. みんなと合流する前に入ったカフェ、良い雰囲気の高い壁に圧倒されつつ、がんばった(笑) Before meeting up with friends, had lunch at this fancy cafe in Hama-cho. It was too fancy I kinda got overwhelmed sketching it and it shows doesn't it? Here's the old looking neighborhood. This is a Sushi restaurant close by.  I knew that I couldn't capture the whole thing, so I started from drawing the air duct on the left side page, and drew whatever I wanted to draw, not thinking about completing the whole building.

Quick sketch gathering with San Diego sketcher, Taka

Image
By Taka-san's call we met in Ningyocho and have two-hour sketch session before having drinking. In the first half time, unlike usual, we lined up in front of a nostalgic looking sushi shop, and captured it. we usually scatter around and each one draw different subject but this time we drew same building from almost same standing point. It is interesting to see how everyone depicted it. What diversity our result has! I drew this with ballpoint pens for a change. In the second half time we visited Suitengu shrine. This place is popular among young women and couples who are wishing babies and healthy/ easy delivery. Dogs are symbol to easy delivery. These dogs heads are so well rubbed that they are so shiny. Taka-san also invited new participant, Yusuke-san.
